On Wed Aug 12 2026 the July CPI numbers came in as estimated but did not show inflation is taking off. Stocks tried to rally off the news but with the latest PPI numbers due of today (Thu Aug 13 2026) investors continued to hold back on capital outlays.
The SPX ended the day up 20 points to close at 7748. Volume was lighter at 4.7 billion shares with 47% of all trading volume advancing and 53% of stocks rising by the close which was better than Tuesday’s numbers.
The NASDAQ rose 143 points ending the day at 26,588. Volume was low at 8.2 billion shares traded. By the close 61% of all volume was advancing along with 56% of stocks. Wednesday was the third day with rising number of stocks joining the rally.
