This indicator looks back 21 days and compares price action from the past to the present. With the Rate Of Change, prices are rising when signals are positive. Conversely, prices are falling when signals are negative. As an advance rises, the Rate Of Change signal should also rise higher, otherwise the rally is suspect. A decline should see the Rate Of Change fall into negative signals. The more negative the signals the stronger the decline. |

Stock Market Outlook for Thu Aug 20 2026
For Thu Aug 20 2026 the technical indicators are still pointing to weakness as dominating trading today. The closing candlestick on Wednesday indicated a chance for a bounce today but until the majority of technical indicators change to bullish, the index will remain facing weakness. Dips then are likely. For Thursday though I anticipate a bounce based on the closing candlestick but whether it holds is unknown.
In the economic reports, we get the latest Weekly Initial Unemployment Insurance Claims which a number of economists think will be higher than estimates of 210,000. That could weigh a bit on stocks if they come in at 215,000 or more. A number below 210,000 will support stocks moving higher.
