For FullyInformed Canada Members a new trade today in Manulife Financial Stock.

With more and more analysts jumping onto the Manulife Financial Bandwagon, the stock is looking stronger and appears set to break-out. Manulife Stock has failed to recover from the collapse of the financial sector in the great bear market of 2008 to 2009. In 2005 the stock was trading for on average $30.00. In 2006 it continued to climb and reached just above $39.00. In 2007 it traded for most of the year above $40 and indeed reached above $44.00.

The dividend back in 2007 was 24 cents and just prior to the collapse of the stock in 2008, the board of directors at Manulife Financial had raised the dividend to 26 cents. The subsequent collapse of the stock saw management slash the dividend to 13 cents in August 2009. The stock itself collapsed to below $10.00 in early 2009.

Manulife Financial Stock – 10 Year Chart

The 10 year chart below of Manulife Financial Stock shows the incredible plunge of 79.5% of its value in the bear market from its high of $44.03 in October 2007 to the low of $9.02 in March 2009. Since then the stock has shown signs of wanted to break higher. The stock since March 2009 is now up 166% for those lucky enough or smart enough to have picked up shares in the collapse.

Manulife Financial Stock – Dividends

The annual Manulife Stock dividend was not raised until August of 2014 when it was jumped to 15.5 cents per share from 13 cents. This past May it was increased to 17 cents. The company definitely appears to be on the mend.  I have traded in this company since 2000 and even in the crash of 2008 to 2009 I was holding in the money naked puts at deep underwater prices.
