Last week for the first week of April I wrote that I expected bearish sentiment to assist in keeping stocks from falling very far which meant limited risk to my capital in use. By the end of last week however, stocks were down 1.2%, with support levels being tested. With the start of quarterly earnings on Monday after the markets close, this week is important for the month of April and indeed it could be significant for May as well.

Chinese CPI and PPI down Again

Sunday evening we got the latest CPI and PPI out of China and neither were good. For the 47th month in a row the numbers continue to point to contraction of the Chinese economy. Many Asian markets moved lower when the numbers were released and that could impact stocks to start the week off here in the US. However, lower numbers were expected and as such any decline to start the day on Monday may be smaller than the futures point to on Sunday evening around 10:30 PM.
