The Market Direction Outlook for the Toronto Stock Exchange for Tuesday was for a sideways type day.  In my comments yesterday I indicated the technical indicators are not supportive of the rally yet. More upside needs to be seen before an all-clear message can be given. The advance decline numbers do not support today’s rally and despite more technical indicators turning back up, none are supporting the present rally.

For much of the day on Tuesday stocks did slide a bit lower but once 14750 held, stocks moved higher and closed at 14,898.53 up 35.77 on the day. It would seem to a lot of investors that Tuesday had little up action but actually, the index moved from 14750 to 14,898 which is 148 points. This added to the growing outlook for a move back above 15000 for the TSX.  The real question now is will oil stay above $40. If it falls below the TSX will move back down.
