TSX Market Direction Outlook For August 20 2014

The outlook for the Toronto Stock Exchange for Tuesday was for stocks to continue to advance. The huge jump on Tuesday of 138.70 points was more likely a delayed reaction to the jump in US Stock Indexes which took place on Monday. The TSX tends to follow the US Markets and the jump in those markets obviously was seen by investors as a signal that stocks are poised to move still higher.

Gold fell below 1300 for the first time in a few weeks which indicates the inability of gold to convince investors to use it as a hedge against geopolitical events. The Canadian dollar also pulled back on Tuesday losing 0.48 of a cent to close at $91.38. Investors are turning more to the US Dollar over the last several days leading to a decline in the Canadian dollar and other countries currencies as well.
