Friday March 18 saw the TSX Composite Index tumble by 124 points to close just below the 13500 level which has been resistance for the TSX for three days. On Monday March 21 the TSX Composite Index recovered half Friday’s losses in a day of choppy trading in the morning and a rally into the afternoon.

TSX Composite Index Finished Up 64.02 Points

The two-day TSX Composite Index chart below set for one minute intervals gives a clear picture of the past two trading days. Friday was pretty well a straight down day. Monday though started with a pop to 13560 on news that the CEO of Valeant Pharmaceuticals International was stepping down.

TSX Composite Index Chart – 2 Day Trading

The initial rally was lost within the first 25 minutes of trading and the TSX fell back to 13480 by mid-morning. That brought in buyers who pushed the index back above 13500 by the lunch hour. A second pullback was not nearly as deep as the morning drop and that seemed to be enough for many investors. They jumped into stocks and by the close the TSX Composite Index had recovered about 50% of Friday’s loss to close at 13,561.09 on Monday.

Momentum throughout the afternoon on Monday was primarily positive which may set the TSX Composite Index up for another higher open on Tuesday.
