Some quick comments this morning on the stock market reaction to the February 2017 unemployment report which was released before the stock markets opened. The numbers came in well below 300,000 but still above many estimates. The national unemployment rate fell back to 4.7% with 235,000 jobs created in February. Most estimates were for 190,000 jobs created but that number changed on Wednesday with the ADP report showing private payroll grew more than expected in February. Many analysts changed their outlook to perhaps as high as 250,000 for February following the ADP report.
So what does this mean for the market in general and the Federal Reserve’s decision on interest rates for next week? How should investors handle the present market reaction?
