On October 10 the next quarterly earnings unofficial gets started when Alcoa reports their latest quarterly results. However I believe Nike is probably a better gauge of how the global consumer is actually doing. Over the past several quarters Nike has warned us each time earnings have been released, that the consumer is not spending but is contracting their purchases.

Whether that is finally different this time we will find out on Tuesday after the market closes but all indications point to a lackluster consumer so I am expecting earnings to not meet expectations.

Nike stock announces its earnings on Tuesday Sep 27 after markets close.
