Following my YUM Stock article last night and my put selling the $57.50 puts for 21JUL12 options expiry, this morning YUM Stock sold off more and with YUM Stock price down to $61.55 and I bought 500 shares at $61.62 for a quick bounce. The key to this trade was following stock technical analysis tools and in particular the Fast Stochastic from last night’s chart which I posted on my site. YUM Stock / Read More

Market Timing and Understanding Short-Term Signals

Market timing has always perplexed a lot of investors and I do believe it is because they do not understand what market timing is telling them. There are varying types of market timing. There are very long-term market timing signals such as those that look at several years. Then there is long-term market timing signals such as the 200 day moving average or the rate of change market timing system. Next there are the mid-term signals such as MACD Histogram (Moving Average Convergence / Divergence) which look out a period of a few / Read More

MACD Issues Sell Signal and Market Timing Indicators Confirm It

MACD Histogram or Moving Average Convergence / Divergence is a unique and powerful tool that is used by many market timing systems including my own. I have used this tool since it was first introduced by inventor Gerald Appel in the late 1970’s. What is unique about this oscillator is that it is a trend follower made up of moving averages and momentum. MACD has kept me safe in many of the worst market environments. The histogram that can be used with MACD can be used to spot turning points in markets and / Read More

Microsoft Stock Profiting From MACD

Yesterday and today Microsoft stock performed well, but looking at the chart it is just a bounce from being so oversold a few trading sessions earlier. On Thursday Apr 12 I bought shares in the morning based on the market timing technical indicators, primarily the Ultimate Oscillator, which showed the stock had hit an interim bottom and was going to bounce. This in no way establishes a support level for Microsoft stock just a bounce. It’s easy to tell when you look at the charting on the stock and realize as well that / Read More

Market Timing / Market Direction And Understanding MACD

Market Timing technical indicators yesterday were mixed but the indicator I focused on was MACD or Moving Average Convergence / Divergence. It is an important market timing indicator when it comes to understanding market direction. MACD was developed by Gerald Appel in the 1970’s and the beauty of MACD is that this technical indicator is designed to spot changes in strength, market direction, momentum and DURATION of a TREND. While it can be used on any kind of asset class but it was designed for stocks and indices. MACD belongs to the oscillator / Read More

AGQ ProShares Ultra Silver Investing Strategies Part 3

As many readers are aware I have been busy working on Part 3 of the AGQ ProShares Ultra Silver article to conclude it. It took a lot longer than I had thought to write the final part. After 2 weeks, I have concluded the article which is 52 pages long and details out 4 different strategies that I have used and continue to use on various ETFs and on some stocks. While these strategies are designed for high volatility Ultra ETFs like AGQ, they work well for particularly stocks. For example last week / Read More

Market Timing / Market Direction Sleep Well The Bull Is Simply Resting

Market timing indicators are flashing overbought, but no serious concerns about any major decline. Despite European concerns the bearishness in my market technicals show that any serious downtrend is well contained. All the market timing indicators are still unconcerned about the overbought condition and in general are advising that when this weakness in the stock markets is over stocks will be set to rally higher keeping the market direction in a bullish envelope. Basically the Bull Is Just Resting. Market timing indicators from the rate of change through to the fast stochastic are / Read More

V Stock (VISA) Put Selling With The MACD Histogram

V Stock has had a terrific swing higher since Nov 25 when the stock closed at $89.02. Throughout this move up I have stayed with a put selling strategy of staying about 10% out of the money with the put strikes I sell against V Stock. Today, Dec 28,  V stock dipped closing at $100.72. I sold puts on V Stock, picking the Jan $92.50 put strike and selling puts for .55 cents. While the chart on V Stock looks good I prefer to stay about 10% away from the present V Stock / Read More

Market Timing / Market Direction - Is There Something We Don't Know

Market timing could not have predicted the move this morning by central banks to provide liquidity to the European Banks. Obviously the European debt issue is more dangerous than market timing tools, investors or average citizens realize. The coordinated move by the Federal Reserve, European Central Bank, Bank of Japan, Bank of Canada, Bank of Switzerland and the Chinese Government is a sign of just how serious the European mess is. Did you find it interesting how on the same day as this occurred we also were given positive news about home sales / Read More

Market Timing / Market Direction Happy Thanksgiving

Sometimes investors can look at the global economic community and without using market timing indicators, know that the situation is becoming worse. With the Thanksgiving weekend in the United States and the week shortened, a lot of investors can take a breather from watching the tumultuous markets. Over the past few days I have received a number of emails complimenting me on a number of good market timing calls on the market direction. While I appreciate the market timing and market direction compliments, it’s not really all that hard to predict presently, since / Read More
