Color Code Your Way To Profits – Suncor Energy Stock (SU) for 2015

I have traded in Suncor Energy Stock for a few years. It is a great company with a solid management team, that operates under three sections. These are:

oil sands
exploration and production
refining and marketing

The company has a book value of $27.86 a share, profits of $2.07 a share, cash flow of $6.63 a share and revenue of $41.6 billion. It pays a dividend of $1.12 which yields 2.98%. The payout ratio is 45.19% so I doubt the dividend is in jeopardy even with the decline in oil prices. Debt to capital is just 22.12%.

Suncor Energy trades at 18.1 times price to earnings and perhaps more important, 1.3 times price to sales and 5.5 times price to cash flow.

In 2014 if an investor has been keen to trade the stock, he could have earned 28.8% from January to June just by holding it. But if he had bought the stock in January and then held it into December he would have been up just 2.3%. This is why I prefer my methods of investing. While last year I would not have earned 28.8%, my strategies would have come close at 23.65% but the difference would have been that by year-end, I would have pocketed 23.65% in actual new capital and be left without holding any positions in Suncor Energy Stock and no concerns about what the stock might do next.
