Market Direction Outlook For May 1 2013 – Pushing Higher

The Market Direction outlook for Tuesday was for the market direction to be weak in the morning and then push higher later in the day. I did not anticipate the market direction dropping back so heavily in the morning but once again the dip was bought, or in my case puts were sold, and the market direction pushed higher in the afternoon. By the close we were sitting at all time new highs in the S&P 500. Now on the verge of breaking 1600 for…

Market Direction Intraday Comments For Apr 30 2013 – Numbers

In my Market Direction outlook last night I expected the morning to be weak and then in the afternoon a push to try to get higher. The morning plunge in market direction though almost wiped out most of yesterdy’s gains as investors reacted negatively to the big contraction in the Chicago Purchasing Managers Index which came in at 49, the lowest reading since September 2009. March was at 52.4 which was a bit on the anemic side as it was. But just as the market…

Market Direction Outlook For Apr 30 2013 – Profits Ahead

The Market Direction outlook on the weekend for Monday was for some weakness in the morning and then a push higher throughout the day. There was not much weakness in the morning as the market direction opened up higher and then pushed up until around 2:30 and then drifted down with one last attempt to push to a higher high at the close which failed. So another up day for stocks and now the NASDAQ is sitting at a 12 year high, and both the…

Put Selling As Exxon Stock Slides and How the Media Helps

Exxon Stock has been in my portfolio since 2010. Exxon Stock symbol is XOM. The returns over the past 2 and a half years have been excellent and I have not yet been assigned shares in Exxon Stock. Last year I bought shares 4 times for a quick bounce and a trade out but put selling was the dominant strategy as each month I kept put selling for substantial gains. Analysts and Media and How They Can Help Like most people I get to hear…

Put Selling The Plunge in AT&T Stock (T)

Earnings were released by AT&T Stock (T) and the stock fell on April 24 to a low of $36.63. I sold puts on the drop but AT&T stock only partly recovered on Thursday and then moved back to close at $37.04 on Friday. Put Selling has been highly profitable in AT&T Stock since I started in 2011 but the recent weakness caught a lot of investors by surprise. I received a number of emails wondering why I had sold puts on April 24 and asking…

Market Direction Outlook For Apr 29 2013 – Make or Break Week

Market Direction on Friday saw the Dow squeak out a gain but the S&P and NASDAQ ended slightly lower. But for the week the S&P 500 was up 1.7 percent recovering much of the previous week’s 2.1 percent loss. Friday’s market direction was highlighted by the GDP report which showed the US economy expanded by 2.5% in the first quarter which was below expectations for 3% growth. To add to the sour mood, the University of Michigan consumer sentiment slipped to a three month low.…

Naked Calls Riskier Than Naked Puts?

My recent article on Naked Calls generated a lot of responses from investors. An interesting comment from one investor discusses the risk of a takeover to those investors holding naked calls. Let’s look at his comment and see if there is a solution to his concern on using naked calls. Naked Calls Are Riskier Than Naked Puts? Comment from investor: Selling naked calls carries a much greater risk then selling naked puts, there is no limit how high the price can move, there is always…

Naked Calls – Their Risk and Power

Naked Calls have had a bad reputation for decades. Most of the time investors, financial planners and brokers have attacked Naked Calls as too risky when in fact naked calls are in many ways less risky than naked puts and some option traders will argue that naked calls are among the best of option strategies in bull and bear markets depending on your goal and outlook for a stock. Twice recently I have sold naked calls on Barrick Gold Stock and both times I have…

Tips On Avoiding Losses When Using IWM ETF with the Trading For Pennies Strategy

When using the Trading for Pennies Strategy with the IWM ETF the goal is to earn 6 cents or more, but it is easy to quickly end up with losses. When you have bought 50 to 100 options, even a 10 cent loss means losing capital. 10 cents on 100 contracts in IWM ETF Options is $1000.00. If for example you have been trading for 5 cent gains in the Russell 2000 ETF, just one loss of 10 cents wipes out 2 gains. Eventually by…

Market Direction Outlook For Apr 26 2013 – Here Comes May

Market Direction today was moving better for much of the day and then around 2:15 PM news came that Germany’s high court may reject Outright Monetary Transactions. Basically what this means for Europe is that the European Central Bank through OMT could prop up smaller troubled Euro Members through additional fundings of varying size and methods. It was not the thought that Germany may reject OMT but the thought that Europe’s mess may rear its ugly head again that sent stocks lower. The S&P fell…

Market Direction Intraday Comments For Apr 25 2013

Market Direction today seems a bit more on track as the market opened up slowly and then began to a slow push higher. This is the kind of action that I like to see in the market direction because it builds a much firmer base than big gap opens. I know it isn’t as exciting but a slow grind higher is what builds more solid support than big gaps and large up days. The Weekly Initial Unemployment Insurance Claims were down once again with a…
